    NT4 slower than WIN98

    Locked

    by lstanton ·

I have a LAN set up using WIN98. It is working fine, no problems. I set up another one in another lab on NT4, same programs, and it gives me problems when users try to log on. If several try about the same time then the program they are trying tolog into freezes up, but only to more logins. Those that are already in can continue working just fine. I have to shut down all the machines that were trying to log in and restart them and then log them in to the program one at a time. Why would I have this problem in NT and not on WIN98?

Hi did you join the domain in both cases. You didn’t mention what protocol you are using and if you are using WINS or HOSTS files.

This may not be the case but, if you are using a NT Workstation as the logon server then it may be the limit of connections that Workstation can support. I believe that this number is (13) users at a time. As far as I know Win9X system can have unlimited number of connections.

You don’t mention what nt4 you are running or what type of program you are logging into. It may be that NT is not configured correctly to use its availbe resources or they may not be enough for what you are trying to do. Also if it is not a windows based App then there may be issues with how it is trying to work that NT doesn’t allow. More info would help.

Just to add: NTW is limited to 10 connections.
