nt4 to 2000

By fagahi ·
small network runs on nt4 domain (domainA). Recently installed an enterprise software on a new Small Business Server 2000 server. The 2000 is set up as a new domain with active directory (domainB). How can I demote the NT4 and have it join the new domain as a member server? Any advise would be appreciated.

2000 SBS is an antisocial little so-and-so. Change the NT to DomainA and plug your NT box in and watch it cringe as SBS2K takes everything away from it.
If you insist on demoting it, you should then have the option of going into server manager (on the NT) and demoting the NT server.

Not sure I want to touch Answer 1.

If the NT4 server is a domain controller of any kind (PDC or BDC), the only way to change it into a member server (non-domain controller) is to reinstall NT4. Once you have reinstalled NT4 Server as a member / standalone server, you can join it to the SBS2K domain just as you would any other computer.
