NT4 to AD with Exchange

By Tim.Doyle ·
So I'm all set to go ahead with my NT4 to AD migration. Got a new server built up as an NT4 BDC, ready tp promote it and run the upgrade to 2k3 Server when I suddenly think of a last minute problem. My current PDC is also my Exchange server. When I promote my new BDC to PDC it will automatically make the existing PDC and BDC, but when I upgrade to Server 2k3 the old Domain goes away and I have to get rid of the old server, right? What do I do about Exchange? Should I do the Exchange migration first? Should I create a brnad new AD domain and migrate everything manually? Should I use something like the Aelita products to try to do everything for me all at once?

Promote the new server to the PDC first before doing the upgrade to W2K3. Microsoft has actually published a ton of info on migrating from Exchange 5.5 to 2003. That being said tough if you have the budget to get a tool like Aelita's that is the way to go as there migration product works very well.

This didn't answer my question at all. I know I have to promote the new server to PDC and then upgrade to 2k3, the question is what to do with the old PDC? The problem is its running Exchange.
