NT4 Workstation upgrade

By williamoshea ·
I just upgraded an NT 4 workstation to window 2000.
All the installed application do not appear when I click on Start Programs, but when I check C;\winnt\profiles\all users\programs there are all there. I also noticed that the upgrade did not create a C:\documents and settings folder. I cannot afford a clean install because I no more have the disk for a host of the applications.

HELP. HELP. HELP

Hi,

Whenever you upgrade your machine Nt4.0 to 2000 some of the applications will not work in 2000.You have to reinstall that applications.

Programs folder will show all your old programs but the installer may be diffent in windows 2000 that is why some applications will not work. You have to remove manually that existing folders and install that applications fresh.

Hope this will helps

Upgrading NT4 to Win2K does NOT create a "Documents & Settings" folder, acutally. The WINNT\Profiles folder structure is used in this situation. So, your user profiles will remain in WINNT\Profiles.
Did you just try and copy the program file groups from the All Users profile and put them in the user account profile that needs them? Sometimes stuff in All Users doesn't get into the user profiles. I've seen it. I think it is due to weird NTFS file permissions on the user profile file structure.

hope this helps
