NT 4.0 boot up issue:
Environment: 30GB Hard Drive
Partition 1: FAT(had Win 98 earlier) approx 3 GB
Partition 2: NTFS 5 GB
Partition 3: NTFS approx 20 GB
NOS : NT 4.0 (SP6.a), Function of Server: BDC
After I initially installed NT 4.0 -BDC it booted up fine. Then I applied SP6.a and rebooted, it would NOT boot up. (I have checked CMOS settings)
Next I used the NT boot up disk (I had done before applying SP6.a) with Ntdetect, boot.ini and NTldr from the same server, It booted up fine. It boots up every time.
Now, if I try without the boot disk, it does not boot and gives an error msg. Something like “Kernel not found…….”
I checked the FAT partition, reNamed the files Ntdetect, boot.iniand NTldr on the server and copied the files from the floppy disk to the FAT partition. It still would not boot without the floppy.
PS: once booted up the server works fine.
I am missing something. I will thankful for Any ideas, pointers.
