NT4SP5 Roaming profile

by bill cassada . Updated 25 years, 6 months ago

For those of you who read my posts you know I’ve been dealing with the roaming profile problem for some time now. I’ve done a LOT of research and I think I may have found the source of my problem, although not the cause. Here are the essentials:
-NT4SP5 Wkstn
-Domain
-Roaming Profiles
-Q173870 (Reg hack to auto del roam profiles at logoff) has been applied.
-Permissions on the profile folder and the profiles themselves are SYSTEM-Full control, user-Full control

Yet when the user logs off or restarts, the cached profiles remain in the %systemroot%\profiles folder. Randomly and for no apparent reason when users log on they get the “Your local profile is newer than the…” routine. We have considered implementing Q196284 except that we have some users who need to use the local profile (laptops for example). Antivirus is not scanning until Friday evenings, so this is not an issue. I have verified timestamps and found nothing out of the oridinary.

Does anyone know why this reg hack does not work as it should? Permissions are not restricted beyond the norm on the registry. It’s driving me crazy.

Thanks!
