Ntbackup and Exchange

Hi srivatsa,

you did not rate my previous answer and give me my well deserved 10 points and now you ask a second question with the same generous reward.

The Exchange version of ntbackup provides two additional switches, which allow you to backup the IS and the DS separately. The switches are /is \\<server name>, which specifies the IS of the server that is specified by <server name>, and /ds <\\server name>, which can be used to indicate the desired server's DS.

Open command prompt.
Type:
ntbackup /is \\server1 /ds \\server1

If you're using the graphical interface to NTBackup, you just have to select the proper Exchange server, check the boxes for Information Store and Directory and then start the backup.
