One thing going for people who use FAT on their boot partitions is the fact that they can use a DOS floppy to get the system checked out. Those with all NTFS hard drives will have to seek alternate means. The best bet is use boot the NT CD or floppies and follow the prompts for repair, in this menu you will see your options for certain low level disk or file errors also some options for repairing the registry and NT itself. This is your best bet, and it helps to have your repair disk when asked just so the system can have the correct registry keys which is crucial if you have some special disk setup like a stripe set or mirror. Good luck!...

Ideally you should always have an NT boot disk and a latest emergency repair disk on a floppy or a copy on the hard disk.

If you don't than you can copy boot files from another machine with same service pack files and you still need a repair diskfrom a floppy or hard disk.

If the system lets you select boot from the last good login then try that first or select VGA mode and see if that works.

Alternatively you can boot from CD or installation disks and select R for repair
and if havenot run rdisk.exe recently or ever than re-install NT and upgrade your previous installation and re-run your service pack afterwards.

Ultimately you need to ensure the offending hardware or drivers that caused the problem is fixed or uninstalled if cannot be fixed.

Good luck.

Spiceman was correct and his solution is for NTFS. You can also reinstall or install a new copy into a different directory and try to repair that way.
