Why is your second partition F and not D ?
Apart from that I can't think of any way that your disk could change from NTFS to FAT. That would normally take a Fdisk and format.

It seems as though you have a MBR virus in your system, from the symptons you have described, run your anti-virus,and if it's norton anti-virus there is a utility that you may be able to recover data
1-Run antivirus
2-Run Scan Disk to check for diskerrors
3-Use the noton disk doctor data recovery utility that you can download from www.symantec.com
Hope this helps

If you have a virus that has caused this it is fairly easy to fix, it may not be a virus just a Master boot record (MBR) that needs to be reset. Try at the C: prompt typing fdisk /mbr, this will reset your MBR and will also delete any boot virus that may have infected you. It will appear not to have done anything when you do this as it will return to the prompt. Rest assured it has worked. Also do the affected partition.

Are the two harddisks on the same controller . Also it seems like that all your partitions are primary partitions . Were you doing something in Disk manager before your system Hanged . Were you attempting to make a partition bootable or change driveletters . Is WinNT booting fine ? Are you dual booting are you booting Win98 by making a different partition Active ? I can give you a better answer if you can clarify these facts . Hope to hear from you soon .
