NTLDR is Missing Error

By nhoek ·
I had a user working away on their PC and it just shut down and when it rebooted it would not boot up and it was displaying the error message "NTLDR is missing"

Any ideas on how to replace that file?

Sounds like the hard disk died. You might get lucky if you can boot from a floppy. Try this link for info:

Good luck!

I think the user has inadvertantly deleted the "ntldr" file in the root directory of the system drive/boot drive. If you can boot from a floppy copy the "ntldr" file of the same version from another system through the floppy disk.
Best of luck

First thing to do is run a diagnostic Utility on the fitted HDD to make sure it is still working perfectly sometimes a weak PS can destroy the MBR's and while the drive is working perfectly all the data has been lost.

If the drive passes the testing then all you need do is to replace the missing file from an identical computer through either a Floppy disk or a Boot-able CD with the file copied to a Floppy of the Boot able CD.

I had a problem similar to this. It was because the boot.ini file was corrupted. I had to boot with the xp cd and use the recovery console. Then type bootcfg this rebuilt the boot.ini file and the computer started as normal on reboot.

Hope this helps Bill

actually, the first step would be to make sure there isn't a floppy disk in the drive :)
