I get The following file is missing or corrupt: winroot/system32/ntoskrnl.exe" is this file hardware specific so if I copy it from another similar computer will it work or cause more problems We don't have a ER disk or can I use the windows cd to repair it

Looks like your boot.ini entry is corrupt. Take a look at following post

Sorry I missed to update , ntoskrnl.exe file is realted to Windows. You can try to use Windows installation CD to repair. If possible take a backup of the system.
