Checkout your other running softwares

NTVDM.EXE is in your \\windows\system32 folder which is required to run a 16 bit program on your windows xp. If you are running a DOS based program and that programs are must it will affect the running of the XP. Otherwise check for any virus activity which dipicts similar process name.
