Numerous Files Were Deleted from My Galaxy S10

    by johnthomasperry ·

Greetings and salutations! Numerous files were deleted from my phone. No, I have no idea how. Hundreds of photos including camera pics and screenshots are gone. Dozens of PDF files are gone. It’s not even like I could attribute it to deleting a folder with all of my PDFs because there are still other PDFs in My Documents. I also noticed my ringtone had been deleted so I needed to redownload it. That one is the least of my worries, but it seemed to go along with the strangeness of it all. I checked the Trash Bin and found nothing.

Something else which is strange is that in my Gallery there is an album called Recycle which has photos of app icons and also images of the covers of some of the PDF files. Before this all happened I never had a folder called Recycle in my Gallery.

I’m not so annoyed by the loss of the PDFs as I am of the photos. I wouldn’t even know how to go about fixing this…if it can be at all.

      Just like our PCs.

We only lose what we don’t backup. Files can go missing for more reasons than I could write about here so let’s go over the basics. If you have files that need protecting, keep them on backups. That means more than one copy on one device. Best to have your own local backup and if possible another in a cloud.

Now about fixing this. Restore from backups.

We’re going to pretend like the stupidest thing I ever did was not back everything up recently. What’s a good data recovery software? Is it like a PC and the files still exist on the device until they are overwritten?

When I went into Google Photos to see how recent my files were there was some stuff there from 2020 on the screen but then it all disappeared as it was loading. Now the most recent photo I have is from 2018.

Most of what’s on there is backing up to the google cloud by default.

Did you check out say https://photos.google.com/

As to recovery, try https://www.reddit.com/r/datarecovery/ but as almost all Android and iPhones have encrypted storage, no one I know has recovered any files when they are deleted.

Thanks for the input. I checked the Google Cloud already. When I opened the folder I saw photos from 2020 but then as everything loaded those files started disappearing. The most recent photo I have is June 2018.

Same problem years ago with Galaxy S8

This happened to me back then with my s8. I had numerous photos from my travels, but some of them got deleted. It’s like a whole chunk from specific points in time got deleted. I never really understood why it happened tho. But they’re right. It’s important to back your files up. The problem is the limit to the storage. I’d rather get a branded bag than pay for file storage.

I’m sorry to hear about the unexpected loss of files on your phone. Losing valuable photos and important PDF files can indeed be frustrating.

Check cloud backups: If you have been using cloud storage services like Google Photos or iCloud, there is a chance that your photos might have been backed up automatically.

File recovery apps: There are various file recovery applications available for smartphones that can help you retrieve deleted files.

Contact customer support: If your phone is under warranty or you have a service agreement, it might be helpful to reach out to the manufacturer’s customer support.

Backup your data: Going forward, it’s advisable to regularly back up your important files and photos to prevent future data loss.

Regarding the appearance of the Recycle folder and the deletion of your ringtone, it’s difficult to determine the exact cause without more information.

Thanks for the response. I’m hoping I can find a reliable recovery app. I tried two already, and paid for both, but neither worked. I’m wondering if deleted files on a photo work as they do on a PC, as in they stay on the drive until they are written over.

Since I learned my lesson, I am now doing a weekly automatic backup and also putting the files on an external drive.

Check for backups: Look for automatic backups or manually created backups that can help restore your deleted files.

Try data recovery apps: Install data recovery apps from app stores to scan your phone and attempt file recovery.

Consider professional assistance: If important files are still missing, seek help from data recovery services or tech support centers.

Remember to regularly back up your files to prevent future data loss.
