    NW Link and VPN

    Locked

    by netman2 ·

    hi
please i need your help in this scenario…

20 machines is running Windows NT4 (5 servers, 15 Workstations)
the network is running NW Link only as a routed protocol.
the client demand to have a VPN access to his network.

so i install TCP/IP in the RAS server. and configure the VPN connection
    my question is :
1-how he can browse the network through this VPN connection?, TCP/IP and NW-Link is only on the RAS erver, the rest only have NW Link installed

2-is there any special cofiguration i must consider it to get it work ?

3-i installed 5 network printers and connect them to another server and install in it TCP/IP also
i need the rest of the machines to deal with printers through NW Link only, is this correct ?

    Kind Regards
    netman

The VPN encapsulates packets of different types (even unroutable ones) in IP…so you should be able to make this work.

      Take a look here:

      http://www.winnetmag.com/Articles/Index.cfm?ArticleID=9650

This is also a good resource:

      http://www.labmice.net/networking/VPN.htm

      Good luck! Hope this helps….

      Hi,

The articles Aplha has provided should get you through the VPN setup.

But as for the printers, so long as the same protocol is shared by the print server and the clients, and the print server and the printers, you should be ok.

For example, you send a print job to the print server using NWLink, the print server then sends it on to the printers in IP.

So you don’t need to install IP on the clients to print to the printers.

      Hope this helps,
      Gary
