nw4 to nw6 migration

By rhunter ·
Four nw4.x servers in a wan are to be upgraded to nw6. The primary & two others will be on new hardware, the fourth will be an inplace. An image of the primary server & a mock nw6 server was prepared for migration testing outside the production network. The migration fails with the final step, the target server is unable to transform nds. The NDS was not modified to eliminate the other servers prior to migration. Is this the reason for the fail, is something else remiss?

It seems from the question that you have an exact image copy from the primary server put on a test box, which you then want to migrate to the NW6 server. I presume this is in a separate LAN.

Now when transforming NDS the new NW6 server will checkif it can contact all replica's of NDS. Since it is in a separate it cannot. Furthermore you cannot put the image server and the NW6 server in the same network as your production servers.

I suggest you modify NDS on your image (test) server to delete all other servers from this NDS with NDSmgr32, and check with DSrepair that continuity is OK.
