ODBC install

By Corky132 ·
I'm using a program that installs ODBC drivers before it installs itself. When it tries to load mdac 2.1, it fails. I get "Acmsetup caused invalid page fault in module kernel32.dll...". I tried installing a newer version of mdac, but got the same error. This is a windows 95 machine, and DOES NOT have microsoft office on it.

so i guess my question is, how do i install ODBC correctly, without installing MS Office.

Thanks in advance.

If you have a CD-ROM drive, try disabling DMA access.

Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click the System icon, and then click the Device Manager tab.
Select View Devices By Type and click the plus sign to the left of CDROM.
Click the CD-ROM drive you want to change, and then click Properties.
In the CD-ROM Drive Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab.
In Settings, clear the DMA check box. Click OK.
Close the System Properties window, restart the computer, and then try installing.

If this does not solve your problem, you may need to disable DMA for the Disk drive(s) too following the same steps.

Then delete the folder created during the installation of the program you're installing.

Restart Windows and try again.

After the installation is complete, repeat the appropriate steps in the sections above to re-enable DMA

Download ODBC 3.0 driver from Microsoft and run the Setup routine. The download link is:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.asp? (the question mark is part of the url). Choose ODBC 3.0 from Product Name.

Enjoy!
