Offer Quick Start download topic ideas

By MaryWeilage Editor ·
Builder.com recently published three Quick Start guides about Visual Basic .NET, JavaServer Pages (JSP), and C++. We're convinced that the reason why these three products are so popular is because members shared their valuable input about what we should offer in the guides. This has inspired us to create even more Quick Starts, but we want to find out what topics interest our members. Please tell us which development topics you need to learn more about.

In case you missed the three Quick Starts that are currently available, here are the URLs for each audiocast.

Quick Start: Visual Basic .NET:

Quick Start: JSP

Quick Start: C++

(Please delete any extra spaces that appear when you paste these URLs into your browser.)

Thank you in advance for offering your feedback. We greatly appreciate it!

Eclipse?

by RexWorld In reply to Offer Quick Start downloa ...

Thanks for starting this thread, Mary.

I've heard from a couple of folks about IDE's. You know, like Eclipse or Netbeans. Would those be of interest to folks out there?

PHP Please

by uricon In reply to Offer Quick Start downloa ...

PHP - especially in its latest v5 incarnation - would be great. Apart from being available through a lot of ISPs, as well as freely downloadable (great for learners) - it is also widely used in industry.
Version 5 is also a lot tighter in its language implementation, which is good for programmers, and easier for learning (e.g. the Object Oriented features).
A primer might include a brief background, where to download, what tools are required, and how to preview the results in a web browser.
Sample might include the usual hello world, but also a bit on form processing and linking to a database (MySQL would be typical).
It's pretty straightforward to pick up PHP basics, and its embedded nature is great for those wanting to get into web programming in a no-nonsense way.

So PHP next please!! I note It seems to be the most popular request from previous postings too.

Argument closes.
