I am preparing to deploy some new XP laptops and have discovered a problem with Remote Assistance. I have set the machines up with group policy so that solicited remote assistance and offered remote assistance are enabled. When attempting to offer assistance I receive an error that “Access to the requested resource has been disabled by your administrator”. I have two machines that actually work, and I can’t find the difference between these and the ones that don’t. All machines are on the Domain, I am a Domain Admin and have set up and verified that the spelling for the helpers is correct. The non-functional machines can offer to the ones that work, but won’t receive an offer. Remote assistance works fine if an email request is sent. ICF is turned off and I see no differences in group policy settings or terminal services settings in the registry. In reserching the problem, I have found several posts on the net with no acknowledgement of a resolution but many suggestions, all of which I have tried. I also found a post that mentions problems if you are using volume licenses or machines that were oem configured, but indications were that the problem was supposed to be fixed in SP1. One of the machines that works is using our volume license, the other is the oem license. All failed machines use the volume license. One failed machine is also running SP2 RC1. Has anybody else found a solution for this problem?
