Office 2000 instalation

By wagnersj ·
I have several machines, some 2000 some nt 4.0 with sp6a, after the installation of 2000 every user who logs on it asks for the 2000 cd to load more of office. Is there a way short of copying the cd to every cpu to stop this from happening. Most of the users dont have the access writes to load software so it would not be practical to adminstrators to do it every time.

Office 2000 instalation

A couple of questions:
What part of Office are the users being prompted to install?
Have the installs been successful or are these problem PC's?

You can always copy the CD to a network drive and access it from there rather than walking it/copying it to every PC.

Reinstall Office 2000 without Run from CD or install on 1st Run option. Change to Not available option or Run from hard disk.

How was the install done? Was it pushed to all the workstations? I know on 9x systems that when office 2000 install is completed it askes to be rebooted and when you login again it continues to copy files to complete the install. You may want to check, if you havent already, microsoft's website to see if they have a solution for your install situation.

Either:

1) Use a network share to mount the Office 2000 CD (will not cause message to go away, but enable users to add the feature)

2) Install EVERYTHING so there is nothing to install from the CD (i.e. select every single sub option during the install and select 'Run from computer'). This will take gobs of disk space, BUT remove the message once and for all - at least until some user runs out and gets a patch for the latest net bourne VBS script virus.......

3) Same as #2, but change all the sub-options from (1) Install on first use to (X) not available. Same side effect of #2 that patches from MS Website / service pack will REQUIRE the CD again....

4) Uninstall Office 2000 and get another program like Star Office. This is thehumourous side note option and is not meant to be taken seriously ;-)
