Office 2003 Quick Launch + Outlook Express

By kris.counts ·
We are setting up our Terminal Server Farm to deploy 319 Thin Clients (Wyse) out to the field. When we loaded Office 2003 it was discovered that in this new release, Microsoft has done away with the Office Shortcut Bar. We would like to migrate the users to the Quick Launch toolbar, but would like to permanately disable Outlook Express. We have tried removing it but it keeps coming back. Since we use roaming profiles, if the user clicks Outlook Express, it is messing up thier Outlook settings and we have to redo the profile. Has anyone had any luck disabling Outlook Express without causing problems?

2 things to do

You could delete the icon from the users profile since that is where they work from when using the laptop/desktop. Delete the icon from Quick Launch and the Programs menu.

Also, you could set Outlook as the default email client in the Internet Programs settings, so that way all email requests will be pointed to Outlook instead of Outlook Express.

Try that but I would suggest doing both. There is a registry key to disable Outlook Express but I can't remember it off hand.
