Office 95 conversion to Office 2000

By sdangelo ·
Is it possible to convert templates and macros in MSWord 95 to read correctly in Office 2000 Word? Wondering if there is a quick fix, or does each template containing a specific macro need to be re-created.

The simple answer is: There is no quick fix. Some of the templates may work, but the format of mcaros is completely different.

If your company is like most, few if any of the templates and macros being used are documented.

You have an opportunity here! Ask your users to report the ones they are using and also specify if they would like any features of them improved.

Some of the new security patches can prevent unsigned macros from running. Another reason to make sure you know all the macros in use.

Encourage them to report early by promising to work the updates in order recieved.

Lastly, make sure your boss knows you are taking on this task ("shows initiative" and other good words can then be used on your next performance review).

Hello,

Of course there is no quick fix to ensure that every template and macros there-in will work without any problem. But conversion work can be considerably reduced.

The first and fore-most task, of course, is to take a fully secure back-upof every template and the macro.

You will find guidelines on how to migrate templates and nacros in older version of Word to Word 2000 in the on-line help in :

Contents > Templates & Wizards > Troubleshooting Templates > Can I use templates from earlier versions of Word?

This will only help to migrate to Word 2000.

Their working correctly will have to be resolved on case to case basis and as and when the problem is faced while using particular template & macro.

What I feel is that this is only a temporary solution. Some day, you will need to re-write most of the macros to take advantages of improvements in Word 2000.

Your feedback will be highly appreciated.

With best regards,

Sanganaksakha.
