Office 97 being wiped by a virus.

By larry1246 ·
Has anyone come across a virus that wipes out Mirosoft Office 97 and Outlook? I have a user that has Win98 SE with Office 97 and Outlook installed. She also has pcillon antivirus installed. This last week her Microsoft Office dissappeared along withall file folders that where connected to Office. This week she tells me that her Outlook Documents have dissappeared. I have installed McAfee 5.0 and the latest DAT files and cannot find any virus on the machine. I have run McAfee from a boot diskette before intalling and have gone to NAI and gone through all of the virus stuff I can find yet nothing about this. Can anybody help?????

Wow, have you considered the malicious intent "virus"? Thats a joke... kinda, is it possible that this maybe caused by a user with malicious intent to sabotage this user? Just a thought. Maybe not but I will be watching for answers to the case of the disappearing "Office Components" I am sure you checked the microsoft site for possible clues? I have worked with Office 97 extensively for years and have never experienced a problem like you described, provided it really is not a virus! It sure exhibits virus like activity but I love McAfee, its one of the best and if you are using the most up to date engine and virus definitions and no virus is found then I come back to my "Malicious Intent Virus!" Another possibility is some kind of user error.
