Office 97 Binders won't open word docs

By bob@ace ·
After getting the "nimda" virus, binders would no longer open word documents contained within binder. After failed attempt if you opened excel file in same binder and went back to word doc it would open. Reinstalled Office 97 which solved problem. Then reinstalled excel calc update patch and service pacs 1&2, now problem is back. What's up?

Try replacing Riched20.dll from Office 97 into System. It's a hidden file that nimda plays with.

I gave this a try, but Windows won't let me delete or renaim the current Riched20.dll. I even tried shutting down and restarting in DOS. Keeps telling me it is in use.
I compaired file size between file on hard drive and on my Office CD and they are the same, also date of creation is the same and time varies by about two hours so I don't think it is corrupted. (Norton antivirus had quarantined this file when run after Nimda). We had an outside source fix things after the virus, so I don't know for sure the source of the current copy of Riched20.dll.
