I am a network engineer(CNE), I have LAN with netware 4.11 server and 30 win98 clients,I have CISCO 765 router to connect all the clients to Internet, I saw channel no. 1 is opened all the day even there is no body is connected to internet , I discovered 5 win98 computers cause the router to dialup just when the client explore word or excel document on the local server. I used LANALYZER to check what is the type of packets which make the router dialing, I notice the following:When the client on one of the faulty computers tries to open office 97 document on the local server, a TCP/IP packet passed through the router asking about DNSSOA(source of authority), returned back with -ve answer,and the document opened after 3 seconds.
What I have done is the following:
1- check the configuration of Client32(NOVELL client software), every item is the same as the healthy computers.
2- Reinstall windows 98(se and old version)
3- Check routeprint which is the same as a healthy computers.
4- TCP/IP configuration is the same too.
What can I check more? have you an idea about this problem?
