We have been running Windows 2000 terminal server with office 2000 installed, my question has to do with the version. According to Microsoft, each workstation must have an office license, and they all do. Do the versions have to be the same, ie office 2k on server then at least office 2k on client? Or does it just have to be an office license on the client and the version on the server does not matter? Please help. thanks.

Microsoft with TS requires one licence each of that version or above. MS has changed their TS licensing from per connection to per seat in the last year as well...
So with 20 people using Office through TS would need 20 versions of Office 2k, XP or 2k3 licenses.
As well the versions matter - Standard, SBE, etc. of office has to be the same for each license as what you're using.
"You may continue to license Office XP and standalone 2002 products by purchasing Office 2003 licenses and using downgrade rights to deploy software for previous versions such as Office XP or Office 2000. "
"For example, when you purchase the Office XP Professional license you are entitled to use and run Office 2000 Professional, Office 97 Professional or any other older version."
As well - I've done this before working with several organizations.
You can only buy the latest versions of Office so they give you backwards licensing. Now - If you need a license KEY for Office 2000 with a 2003 license you've purchased just call in your license registration and talk to someone live. They will register your 2003 license (for example) and give you a 2000 key.
