Office Help

By dogknees ·
I'm having trouble accessing Help in Office 2010 apps.

If I click the help button in Word, it opens with a message that "This page is unavailable." Search gives the same result.

If I try to switch to the Offline help, same result. The contents display, but clicking on topics gives you no result. Searching gives the same result. "This page is unavailable."

Can anyone tell me how to set this so it keeps working. I'm routinely losing up to an hour a day trying to access Help in these apps.

I know these will sound silly, but:

-Do you have a working connection to the internet?
-Possible that your firewall or antivirus could be blocking Office?

Do you have a personal firewall?

by robo_dev In reply to Office Help

Office Help uses a program called clview.exe, which acts like a virus, and many personal firewalls will treat is as such, which breaks the help feature.

Further crazy question.

If this wasn't a full install of Office, was office help completely installed?

Adding and to my Sites list seems to have resolved for now. Given that it's an intermittent problem, I'll wait and see if it "sticks".

No problem. I hope that solved the problem.

Too Good To Be True

It's back to it's old tricks. Today, I hit the help button in Word 2010 and I get the usual Word help window with a TOC, but the content pane shows "This page is unavaliable........"
If I click a topic in the TOC, it will display, but now search just doesn't work. Enter a term, hit the button (or press enter) and literally nothing happens. No message, no blank screen, no change at all.

Oh what a joy this versions help has been!
