Office XP

After moving from Office 2K to Office XP I’ve noticed alot of chatting going on on my hardrive while it is not in use. This is on my company laptop as well as my personal pc at home. Does anyone know why this is going on? Is this some new featureof XP that while at rest it is constantly optimizing and/or defraging your computer. I’m running Win98SE on both computers.
