    Office2000academic ed.conflictW/NTserver

When requesting Office 2000 academic ed. to be loaded on school NT 4.0 server, was given this response from tech:

Office 2000 has a security protocol that makes it’s use on lab computers very tedious. Specifically, each new user that logs into amachine for the first time is prompted for the Office 2000 disks when they launch one of the Office applications. We have spoken directly with Microsoft about this problem, but they insist that this is an intentional precaution to ensure that userswho are running Office 2000 have the licenses and disks. I referred to the fact that we have an academic license, but they were not forthcoming with a solution.

Anyone aware of this problem and a fix to not need disks? Thanks!

Copy the entire disk(s) to a directory on your server. Install Office2K on NT 4.0 from the server directory. Every time O2K needs something from the disks it will go look at the server directory from where it was originally installed. It you already have O2K installed, after copying the disks to the server directory, just point O2K to that directory when it’s looking for the disks.

It is not so important to know everything as to know the exact value of everything, to appreciate what we learn, and to arrange what we know.
