Office97 on Win 2000 file associations

I am running Office 97 on Windows 2000 professional but when I double click on an office 97 associated file in the explorer, or document menu it seems to attempt to open the file twice, because I always get an error message stating “ is currently being used by . Do you want to make a copy?”

Now this doesn’t happen if a file is opened from the Office 97 programs file menu, either recent files or file open. Does any one have a solution to this problem.
