Offline files disappear

I am running a Windows 2003 Datacenter Server SP2. I have a remote user with an offline file folder of about 1.23GB. When the user works offline and then synchronises, the files synchronise correctly back onto the server, but then when the user tries to access the files offline again some of them are not there. Is it something to do with the offline file caching limit?
