Older Compaq printerport vs scanner

By 6574 ·
Client's scanner sees printerport as Standard rather than EPP. port is ECP. Scanner is fine other than a message that says it would be faster if the port were setup as EPP. The message drives the client nuts. The computer is an ancient Compaq that runs a POINT TO POINT DRILLING & ROUTER device. Other than the obvious replace scanner &/OR PC does anyone have a suggestion that might be of use?

Older Compaq printerport vs scanner

Go into the bios setups. Usually done while starting up and pressing a key like delete or F2 or some other combination. Check your owners manual for this. Then see if the bios will allow the printer port settings to be changed from ECP to EPP. Almost all newer bios allow this.
Hope it helps.

Well depending on the "ancient" nature of the computer why not just add a I/O card that has the EPP capability - this should be a simple enough process and would satisfy the program of the Scanner.

A little tinkering with the BIOS to disable the onboard printer port and setting up the card and all would seem solved.
