Onboard Graphics Broke

by jtregnier . Updated 18 years, 10 months ago

I was attempting to fix a problem on a friends desktop when I seen I have a different problem to correct first. Its an older Dell with Onboard graphics card. The monitor was disconnected in a disturbing manner which caused the actual port/connection to be ripped out of the computer. I tried to put it back on but all of those 15 little prongs are bent and i noticed there are some soldered connections that might have been ripped off too.. A PCI graphics card was recommended to me which I found used for cheap. Can I just plug this in or do I need to change it from the bios? If it needs to be changed from the bios am I better off just replacing the motherboard since no monitor can be used from the existing/origonal port? Thanks!
