    OnePlus 10 dropped in water

    by sachin.melhotra ·

I bought a brand new OnePlus 10 Pro 5G two months ago. My kid accidentally dropped the phone into a bucket of water and now its not working. Though the phone came with a one year warranty, the company warranty policy says this will not be covered in that. What can I do about this? Is my phone beyond repair now? Any advise?

Is the battery user-serviceable? If so, I would remove it and set the phone in dry, white rice for a few days to absorb any moisture inside of it. Even if you cannot remove the battery, the dry rice method may help. After a few days, try to connect to a charger to see if the phone is trying to charge. That may or may not work. If the phone sparks or starts smoking then it may be economically unrepairable. This is not a thing covered under any electrical component warranty.

Gently shake your smartphone to remove any water in the headphone port, charging socket, and other ports. Pop your smartphone in a bowl of dry rice, covering it fully, and leave for a minimum of 48 hours. When the 48 hours is up, check the ports for rice and remove any grains with a small pair of tweezers.

      OnePlus Care

Hi, so sorry to hear that. These things are bound to happen with kids around. I have had a similar experience, but when I purchased my OnePlus 9T, I had also bought an add-on OnePlus Care which came with accidental damage protection plan. This turned out to be a saviour for me, else I would have had to buy a new phone and discard my OnePlus phone. For now, you can try taking it to a OnePlus repair centre and get it checked. But for future, please keep this in mind.

Do not turn on the phone ! Blowing it with a hair dryer isn’t a good idea too.

Wipe it dry with a towel, and put it in a zip-lock bag fill with rice, then leave it for at least 2 days.

As ridiculous as it may sound, but it works.

I think the only thing you can do is to fix it with your own money

You can’t do much about it

Most companies don’t offer warranty claims on water damages. You would either have to pay for repairs, or you would have to buy a new cell phone.

      Sorry 🙁

After the phone has been immersed in water, powering on or charging the phone may cause internal components to short-circuit and burn. Put the phone beside a table lamp, heater, or another low-heat source to accelerate the drying process. Do not attempt to dry with a blow dryer, microwave, or other high-heat sources.

      Hope this helps
