OPC/DCOM issues

By caffreys_col ·
I am using a windows 2003 Server running an OPC server and client (different vendors for the server and client). I can't create any groups in the OPC server when I try and connect using the OPC client tool. I've set all the required permissions/access levels as per the OPC foundations white paper, and other documentation (Matrikon, etc).

Does anyone have any ideas why the OPC server won't allow me to create a group using the OPC client? I can only think there is some issue with DCOM, but I'm stuffed if I know what it could be. Help please!!!

DCOM issues

I recommend reviewing those documents to set the DCOM configurations correctly. Depending on your current operating system, select a document from the list below:

Configuring COM/DCOM for Windows NT or 2000
http://www.matrikonopc.com/downloads/613/whitepapers/index.aspx

Configuring COM/DCOM for Windows XP or 2003 (no service packs)
http://www.matrikonopc.com/downloads/612/whitepapers/index.aspx

Configuring COM/DCOM for Windows XP SP2 or 2003 SP1
http://www.matrikonopc.com/downloads/172/whitepapers/index.aspx

Let me know if you have any questions.

DCOM sorted!

by caffreys_col In reply to DCOM issues

Thats the documents I have been using! Finally found that the service which was running the OPC client was using the "local system" account. When the service was changed to use the administrator account it worked fine.

I'm going to add a new user which has the required permissions to access the server, but less global access than the administrator account.

Thanks for the help
