      in run type

      telnet 195.217.24.240 (this is an example ip address make sure you have the correct ip address, then when you have a session the router should ask you for a login name and password.
      If you are configuring a router for the first time you will probably need to use the console port to configure it’s ip..

      If you’re talking about establishing a telnet session *from* a router, it may depend somewhat on the type of router, but for Cisco routers, you have to be in Exec mode. So from the router> prompt, you type ‘en’ and then the enable password and the prompt will change to ‘#’. You’re then in Exec mode.

      At this point, you can just type ‘telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx’ and you will see the logon screen of the target device (assuming it is configured to accept telnet sessions on that port).

      To terminate the session, just type ‘exit’.
