How do you access an e-mail attachment (that is not in word format)? and how do you transform it to a word document to read it?

That would depend on what kind of attachment you are trying to open. If the file extension is .bmp, .jpg or .gif then you need to open it with a graphics editor or viewer. If the file extension is .txt then any text editor should work. If it is .doc then there are a few programs that you might have to have. If when you installed Microsoft word you didn't install the converters then it will not open files created with other word processing programs.
The point I'm trying to make is that when you ask about opening an email attachment you could be talking about any type or kind of file and you must have the type or kind of program that relates to that file in order to open it.

Try saving the file to your local drive as opposed to opening it from E-mail. Then when you go to open it, it will automatically open if it has an associated program, if not, it will prompt you to open with a specific application and you can choosethe appropriate one.
