Operating ssystem XP Pro failed to install properly

By klbh5831 ·
I have a laptop -Dell Inspiron that was running Windows XP Pro. My son deleted the administrator account by accident. I searched for different ways to recover it, but failed at all attempts. I then decided to install a different version of Windows XP Pro from the disc that came with my home computer. The installation would not complete, I got corrupted files messages. Now I can not do anything. It will not boot in safe mode. All I can get is the setup utility. Is there any way to fix this or am I just going to have to buy a new hard drive? Thanks!

When you are booting the system with the XP cd are you deleting all the partitions and then creating a new one to install on. Format the drive as NTFS and it should install normally although you will lose all files you had before. If you need to back them up you could try Knoppix to backup the data to a cd or external usb drive.
