operating system running from memory

By ricbek ·
what I would like to do is run the operating system from memory. is it possible to power memory to make it non-volatile so that this could be done. imagine loading windows 98 from memory instead of a hard drive - no more waiting.

The feature you are asking about is called "Suspend To Ram" (STR).
This feature is available on new motherboards such as an EPOX 8KTA3.

WARNING! This feature is very sensitive to the quality of the power supply.
These boards will not boot on a cheap supply.
Plan on buying a PC Power and Cooling supply or other equivalent if you want this feature to work.
Regards, Chris
