Opps, where is my XP's StandBy Button??!

The basic arrangement with WinXP Pro is to have various log on IDs (usually with a password). When you log on as user A and want to back out your go Start >> Log Off User A >> Switch User

This (if password enabled) locks the workstation whilst leaving the programs running, the option Log Off will close down open programs. The Start >> Turn Off Computer only gives you Shutdown or Restart.

Naturally if you have the system set so as to go straight into a single user without a password then the whole Log Off User option section is not activated at all.

Feel free to e-mail me if further clarification is needed.

Generally, if the option to put your machine on Standby is unavailable it's because your hardware doesn't support it. I'll assume yours does and the problem lies somewhere else. Try this workaround:
In your power options in Control Panel make sure that Hibernation is NOT enabled. Then right click on your desktop and select New/Stortcut. In the path section type exactly:
rundll32 powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState
Call the shortcut whatever you like. Move it from your desktop to the taskbar and you'll be able to put your machine in Standby with just one click.

Due to improper HAL loaded. Repair of XP will solve it. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup:

data will not be lost.

Your problem can be resolved if you install a VGA/AGP card driver and then restart your machine.
