    Optorite Cd-Rw not detected

    Locked

    by lbsmusica2 ·

I have just installed the Optorite cd-rw in place of my cdrom and windows 98se does not detect it.The cdrw uses master pin setting as did the cdrom drive. The comp shows a cdrom on secondary drive alone. The primary is the hard drive alone.I have even reset the cmos and still the cdrw is not detected.I have installed the cdrw nero soft ware when the cdrom was in,this did nothing when I hooked up the cdrw.No detection. Can someone give me an idea what’ up.I have an IBM 300GL.

If you are seeing a CD ROM on the secondary IDE Bus and you only have one optical drive that is your CDRW they will just be shown as a CD by Windows.

You also need to install the software in this case Nero while the CDRW is installed so that it can detect the drive. If it can not detect the CDRW you will get a message that there are no supported drives fitted do you wish to continue when you attempt to install Nero. If you didn’t get that message when you first tried installing Nero that means that the software has found the drive and is recognising it as a supported burner and when you try to use Nero it will just pickup the CDRW and record to it.

If you have two Optical Drives on the Secondary IDE Bus you’ll need to change the IDE Cable as it most is damaged but the red stripe on the IDE Lead should be closest to the power connector if it is in backward it will not see the drive.

As a good test when you turn on does the CDRW LED light up? If it does the unit is most likely working properly. Windows 98 SE see all CD or DVD burners as just plain players and it is the software that allows you to burn the CD/DVDs. I’m currently looking at a Windows 98 SE computer loaded and it has 4 CDRW’s installed but they all show as CD players to Windows and they all work properly.

I can say yes, the led on the cdrw lites up when the comp goes on.The cdrw is not showing in the system. All there is under drives is the hard drive, and there is no cd listed there. When I connect my cdrom back up the cd is shown in system but when The cdrw is connected the system shows no cd at all in system. That is under system, device manager. The software nero states the file wnaspi.dll can not be found when I select the info about my cdrw or try to test it.

Well in that case you have a faulty CDRW return it for exchange or refund and buy another brand.

I found the answer, but it was not a faulty CDRW.See comment and thank you for your answers. How ever the answer to the question I gave is close to what you said in the first place and this deserves a bonus for you.See the points I gave, please note that this a was hard tech job for me to solve, I must be getting rusty.I flipped the cable over and used the other end duh.It worked along with resetting cmos, and and booting from startup disc.I guess you can say reprogramming the cmos.

You just need to get the dll file. You can download it at ftp://ftp6.nero.com/wnaspi32.dll

I did a find files and folder seach and the file wnaspi32.dll was found in system by me but not the cdrw.It happens sometimes I think when the file is damaged and needs to be replaced. That however does not say why it detects my reg.cdrom and not the cdrw.Still I will try to replace it to see if it helps.

I went to the place of purchase and luckily they had one left to replace the optorite cdrw and they noticed I purchased the extended 3yr. warranty,so there was no problem on the exchange.I will try it again with the new wnaspi32.dll file and cross my fingers.

There seems to be more to meets the eye when installing this cdrw drive as I have noticed. All the answers help just a bit but the drive does not seem to be detected 3 times now i may have to resort to a tech coming in and that would be hard because I have always done it myself.I have one more trick to try and then I will explain the funny side of my delemma, if it works.
