Oracle error TNS-12537

By senthil.selvaraj ·
What to do if Oracle connection returns error TNS-12537. "No Action Required" is the solution provided in Oracle Manual. Please provide and parameter changes, settings to resolve this. There is a firewall b/n the server and client which allows connection for the particular IP address and port.

The file /etc/oratab was modified and some SIDs were removed. Listener.ora still references the SIDs that are no longer valid. Delete the invalid SID references in the listener.ora file, remove the
SNMP.ORA, and restart the listener.

or

TheTNS-12537 means that communications were lost for an unexpected reason, which is a generic catch all error. Check for secondary errors (if not displayed on the screen, look in the SQLNET.LOG which is written to the current directory). While most likely the server disconnected the
communication with the client, the client can also create an TNS-12537. This problem is sometimes caused by a timeout on the connection. If the problem occurs on a WAN, but not on a local tokenring, ethernet,or fddi connection, try setting: connect_timeout_listener=0 (infinite)
to begin, and then trim it down to 300 seconds or so.
(connect_timeout_listener is in the listener.ora file)

Other possible solutions:
1) Invalidentry in services file (tnslsnr <port>/tcp)
2) Sometimes DNS or other related services may be the problem. Try using the IP address instead of the hostname to bypass that resolver.
