If you're still looking try going to http://otn.oracle.com - membership is free and there is a huge store of information on setting up and running Oracle products.

type "sqlplus" from oracle's home directory.
if you have problem then check the system variable
weather ORACLE_HOME,ORACLE_SID,PATH,LD_LIBRARY_PATH VARIABLE IS DEFINED OR NOT

if not then define it as below.

Bourne or Korn shell:
$ORACLE_HOME=/U01/ORACLE91/PRODECT/9.0.1;EXPORT ORACLE_HOME

C Shell
%setenv oracle_home /U01/ORACLE91/PRODECT/9.0.1

(DEFINE OTHERE VARIABLE IN THE SAME WAY,directory MAY MAY BE DIFFERENT DEPAND ON PRODUCT)

AND THEN TRY OUT
