Order of installing Exchange 5.5 Service

By Vuitanh ·
I would like to update my Exchange server 5.5 SP2 to SP4. The current Exchange server is running with Windows NT 4.0 SP4. If I want to install NT SP 5 and Exchange SP4. What is the order it should be? What are the issue that I must be aware of?

Order of installing Exchange 5.5 Service

I make it a general practice to upgrade the OS before I upgrade the application so in your circumstance, my usual approach would be to install NT4SP5 first and then do the Exchange SP4.

I'm unaware of any issues or gotchas with this combination of upgrades. NT4SP5, in particular, has been very stable and problem-free in our environment. But the usual precautions (verified backup before you start, choose the backup option on the SP5 so you can roll back if anything weird pops up, etc.) should be followed.

Also, because the Exchange upgrade does some work with the database, it's helpful to have people clean up their mailboxes to reduce the size of the information store and then run eseutil.exe to do an off-line defrag before you start the upgrade.

Hi
The answer is simple: The last one released by Microsoft goes in last. If you use this rule "of thumb", you won't have problems. We didn't have any for a number of years.
