Organizing Home Library

By ranabasheer ·
I have around 300 books, movies, music etc. in my home library. My wife used to maintain the list in an access database. She had to type in all the cataloging information such as author name, title etc. When I came to know about amazon API and the z39.50 public library access protocol, I made a mashup website called GuruLib (http://www.gurulib.com) to help catalog my home library collection. I would like some of you guys to take a look at the website and provide me with some feedback in this discussion. I do not have too much web development background. I work for a manufacturing company. By the way, my home library is cataloged under http://www.gurulib.com/coolabcgirl

Did you

look at any of the freeware or shareware software to do this? I don't have a specific one in mind but I recall seeing similar software when looking for other things on places like download.com.

Even if you are writing your own software or website, you might want to install some of these to see what they do and how they do it.

(at the risk of plagiarizing their look and feel :)

And I'm now in the process of getting rid of many of my books (much to my gal friend's delight). I've got online access to o'reilly books thru the acm.org's safari site and an indiv subscription to books24x7.com (acm has these too but just a subset).

Looks better on a huge monitor and I can bump up the text size to ease eye strain, do searches for keywords and don't need to heft huge heavy books (try curling up on the beach with a 7 pound tome, all you anti-online bigots!)

Good luck!
