OS says Windows NT; I have Windows XP

By MsSoftail1 ·
While following instructions to remove unused device drivers from "Environment Variables" in my Windows XP Home system, I noticed under "System variables" that my OS states "Windows_NT." I am using Windows XP Home. Is it okay that it says NT and not XP? If it should indicate XP, will you kindly instruct me as to how to correctly edit it, i.e., should it state "Windows_XP"? Thank you in advance.

That is correct, XP is based on NT (New Technology) like Windows NT 3.5x, 4.0, 2000 (5.0) and XP (5.1).

Windows 95, 98, Me are different as they use the Windows over DOS type environment.

So I would leave those variables alone.

Thank you for your prompt answer to my first-time question here. Your advice works for me :) I apologize for sending it twice -- I'm new here & have to "learn the ropes" so to speak. Thank you again.
