We are running an NT4/SP6 network with Exchange 5.5/SP4 running. We had a planned service time over the weekend at which time I added an new NT4 box on the network (never got around to adding apps to it because of this problem) and upgraded Exchange to SP4. Our outlook clients (98 & 2000) ceased to be able to send internet mail. It remains in their outbox. Foremerly, the only outlook service involved with mail was the Exchange Server Transport. I have patched the problem using the Internet Email service, but now we receive multiple copies of inbound email. We never had any disruption of service with either incoming internet email or all workgroup email…I can also send email directly off the server using outlook express. All the services are up and running (on the server). I have pinged everything from everywhere and can’t find the problem. This server also serves as our Web Server (which will be moved to the new server soon). I am at wits end, please help.
