Outlook 2000 blocking attachments

By kadinville ·
We recently installed Office Service Pack 2 on several machines running Office 2000. Now these machines will not accept a number of "unsafe" attachments. Microsoft does not support "undoing" any of the patches made by the service pack. This is also a problem with Outlook 2002.
I have tried to patch the Outllib.dll and Outllibr.dll files from sp1 over the top of the sp2 files. This fixes the attachment problem, but it also causes Outlook to become unstable.

anyone have any suggestions on work arounds for this issue?

If you use Exchange Server 5.5 or higher for your email system, Administrators can control the attachment blocking.
For OL2000 see document:
MSKB Q263297: OL2000: Admin Info About the Outlook E-mail Security Update.
If you use IE5 or higher just type: mskb Q263297
into your browser and IE will take you to the article.
For OL2002 works with the above solution also, or use the new admin package which does not require Exchange.
It is found here:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/xp/appndx/appa11.htm (Please remove any spaces in the link)

If you use Outlook 2000 and dont attach to an Exchange Server. Re-Install is the only way to go to get rid of the email security update.
