Outlook 2000 Error Message

By rwirick ·
Does anyone have a concise explanation when a new user tries to access their e-mail and receives the following error message: "You do not have permission to log on. Unable to open your default e-mail folder" This happens quite often and I'm not familiar enough with Exchange to be able to troubleshoot this error. Thanks in advance, Rich

Outlook 2000 Error Message

If you are using Windows 2000 Professional and are getting this error the reason is as follows. (If this is not Windows 2000 than I do not have an answer - yet)

Cause: The user logged in to the machine does not have local administrator access, this is needed to use Office 2000 and all of it's programs.
Solution: Within the Computer Management program under Local Users and Groups, select groups - then add the user under Administrators. This is for the local machine only and will not give them access to Domain Admin access (ie: servers). What we did at our companys is added Domain Users to this group giving all our users acces if they logged in to the machine.

Hope this helps.
