Outlook 2000 & Exchange Server 5.0

By dmull ·
I've been having problems with a new installation of Exchange Server on NT 4.0. The clients will not connect properly to the Exchange Server though they can ping the name and IP address of that server. I tried entering the Exchange Server name and address in the hosts files on the Win 98 computers, but I'm still having connection problems with the Exchange Server. Do you know where I can get good documentation on the Exchange Server installation when you have only existing NT user accounts and do not need to create new accounts for the mailboxes. During the Exchange server installation it allows you create mailboxes only with new NT accounts. How do you allow Exchange server to use existing NT user accounts only. Please reply if youknow how to get around this installation issue or know what else could be causing my problems connecting to the server. I would like to reinstall Exchange Server, but am not sure if that is necessary. This is the first Exchange Server in their network.

In Exchange, create a new mailbox then just click the "primary windows account" button on the general tab of the mailbox.

As for the client connection problem you can do an RPCping to check connectivity. You may need to change the RPC binding order in the registry to resolve this
