In my current installation, we use an SMTP & POP3 E-Mail Server from ipswitch called IMail and are running the latest version.
My users are running Outlook 2000 in Internet Mode. I have selected the option to leave messages on the server so if ausers HD crashes they have not lost incomming messages. They have lost sent messages because I have the outlook.pst file stored on their local HD. Our network is too busy to store them on the File Server and alot of users have notebooks.
WhenI transfer uses between computers, which happens on a regular basis, Outlook downloads the messages a second time from the SMTP server even though the messages on already downloaded. This happens when I copy the outlook.pst file form the old cpu tothe new one. I know there must be an index file somewhere, but I have not been able to find it.
I currently go into the setting in Outlook, remove the leave messages on server. Sync the e-mail which removes the messages from the server. Then set them on up on the new system, turn back on leave messages on server and then only new messags will be on the server.
Ever since users started to have e-mail, they have become pack rats with the e-mails. I have users with 2000+ e-mails they regulary search through for information. These are corporate offices so I cannot force them to stop this practice.
Any suggestions?
